I am Nolungile Dumileyo (46), although most of my friends call me “Beauty”. I was born in Umtata
in the former Transkei but have lived in Hermanus for the past 19 years. I am married, and my
husband is employed as a painter. I have five children, ranging in age from ten to twenty-six, as well
as two gorgeous grandchildren. I am actively involved in organizing and presenting puppet shows for
children in the community as well as at the Saturday Farmers’ Market.
I sell pork cuts, cow offal and processed sausages to existing customers from my home in Zwelihle,
but I am limited in the quantities I can sell because I can only store products in the freezer
compartment of my kitchen fridge. I am therefore unable to expand my business because I obtain
my stock from an outlet in Cape Town. If I was able to purchase a deep freeze, I could keep greater
quantities of stock, expand my business and increase sales. Having freezer space would also reduce
the frequency of trips to Cape Town. I am aware of competition from local supermarkets, but believe
that my customers regard my products as ‘fresher’; in addition I can sell to them after hours. A deep
freeze would also limit the potential impact of load shedding on the quality of my products.
Total loan applied for R6,000
This project has been set up to succeed through a careful vetting process together with ongoing mentorship and management. Repayment of your loan will only take place at the end of the loan period (usually 12 months) and not monthly. However, as we cannot give any guarantees, in the unlikely event that the project does fail you will not receive the full repayment of your loan but a pro rata percentage depending upon what portion of the loan has been recovered from the business owner.
