Lidia, originally from Queenstown in the Eastern Cape, is a married mother of three children, living in Zwelihle since 2004. In 2006 she did a baking course through Learn to Earn, and went door to door in the Hermanus Industrial area selling her baked goods. In 2016 and 2018 Lidia managed to obtain sub-contracts for plastering on newly built RDP houses in Zwelihle. These sub-contracts came to an end late 2018. She also helps part-time with putting on puppet shows at local primary schools for a small stipend. Early in 2019 Lidia enrolled in a sewing course. With this knowledge she started sewing traditional dresses to order, as well as school uniforms, graduation caps, branded beanies and scarves. She has to use other people’s sewing machines which is not ideal, as she has to pay a rental to use them and the machines are not always working or available. Lidia would like to purchase a sewing machine of her own, which will help her to expand her business, firstly by saving money on unnecessary machine rental, and enabling her to be more productive by being able to work longer uninterrupted hours. She requires a loan of R5,000 for a new sewing machine. With her improved and expanded business, she will be able to pay back this loan, and should be able to apply for an additional loan to purchase an over-locker in a year’s time
Total loan applied for R5000
This project has been set up to succeed through a careful vetting process together with ongoing mentorship and management. Repayment of your loan will only take place at the end of the loan period (usually 12 months) and not monthly. However, as we cannot give any guarantees, in the unlikely event that the project does fail you will not receive the full repayment of your loan but a pro rata percentage depending upon what portion of the loan has been recovered from the business owner.
